Bio

Dr. Price received her BA in Psychology/Criminology (2010) and MS in Applied Cognitive Neuroscience (2013) from the University of Texas at Dallas. She then began her work in addiction research at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center where she studied the neuropharmacologic and endocrine underpinnings of alcohol and substance use disorders as well compulsive behaviors. She then joined the Neurocognitive Laboratory at the University of Florida, shifting focus to research methodology and neurocognitive function. Dr. Price was a research assistant on numerous NIAAA/NIDA-funded projects and clinical trials including the multisite longitudinal study, Adolescent Brain & Cognitive Development (ABCD). She received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 2020 in Psychology/Behavioral Cognitive Neuroscience. Now a research fellow in the Neurocardiac Lab, she will integrate her work on cognition, stress, and endocrinology, with the study of heartrate variability, baroreflex receptors, and the brain-body link to continue her work on alcohol and substance use disorders.

2019-2020 Peripheral Correlates of Cognitive Recovery from Substance Use (McKnight Brain Institute, Research Society on Alcoholism, Society of Addiction Psychology)

These grants funded collection and analysis of dissertation data as well as tuition/stipend support for the final year of predoctoral work. By estimating typical monthly growth rates, markers found in human hair can be used to establish a retrospective calendar of cortisol concentrations. Month-to-month cortisol accumulations were measured in newly-abstinent individuals receiving treatment for alcohol and substance use disorders. This work established intraindividual hair cortisol levels in abstinence and in the months prior during chronic alcohol use.

Other Information

Dr. Price is passionate about community outreach and philanthropy. She has previously been awarded the Presidential Service Award (2009, 2010, 2013) for her work with the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation and Meals on Wheels. She is a regular participant with local school science fairs, Skype a Scientist, and in 2019 and 2020 organized the North Central Florida Brain Awareness Week.
